Advancing health, education, and social development in Nepal through research, innovation, and community-driven solutions.

Health & Nutrition

HEARD Nepal is unwavering in its commitment to building equitable, resilient, and people-centered health and nutrition systems across Nepal. With a strong focus on marginalized, Dalit, ultra-poor, and disaster-affected populations, the organization advances integrated Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (MNCAH), comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), community-based nutrition, Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) prevention and management, Mental Health and preventive health services.

Recognizing the growing burden of NCDs including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, and cancers HEARD Nepal promotes early screening, community awareness, risk-factor reduction (tobacco control, healthy diet, physical activity), and strengthened referral systems in coordination with local governments and health facilities. The organization integrates NCD prevention within primary healthcare and community outreach platforms to ensure early detection and continuity of care, particularly for vulnerable populations. By strengthening primary healthcare delivery, promoting informed health-seeking behaviors, and supporting local government health systems, HEARD Nepal works to eliminate preventable maternal and child deaths, reduce the burden of NCDs, and address malnutrition in all its forms. This transformative work directly advances SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being)—particularly indicators 3.1.1, 3.2.1, 3.4.1, and 3.8.1 while contributing to SDG indicator 2.2.2 on ending all forms of malnutrition.

Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

HEARD Nepal champions universal access to safe water, dignified sanitation, and sustained hygiene behavior change as fundamental human rights and pillars of public health. Through climate-resilient water systems, improved sanitation facilities, menstrual hygiene management, and targeted Social and Behavior Change Communication, the organization reduces disease burden and safeguards community health. Special emphasis is placed on WASH in Schools and health facilities to ensure safe, inclusive, and gender-responsive environments. This work accelerates progress toward SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), especially indicators 6.1.1 and 6.2.1, while reinforcing public health outcomes under SDG 3.9.2.

Food Security, Resilient Livelihoods, Agriculture, and Economic Development

HEARD Nepal strengthens household resilience and economic dignity through sustainable agriculture, climate-smart farming, diversified income generation, and entrepreneurship development. By empowering smallholder farmers, women, youth, and socially excluded communities with technical skills, financial literacy, and market linkages, the organization transforms vulnerability into opportunity. Its integrated livelihood model reduces poverty, mitigates climate and economic shocks, and promotes self-reliance. This strategic investment contributes directly to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), particularly indicators 2.1.2 and 2.3.1, and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), including indicators 8.3.1 and 8.5.2.

Inclusive and Formal Education

Education is at the heart of HEARD Nepal’s vision for sustainable and inclusive development. The organization works to ensure that every child—especially girls, children with disabilities, orphans, and marginalized groups has access to safe, quality, and inclusive learning environments. Through scholarships, improved infrastructure, WASH in Schools, teacher support, and community engagement, HEARD Nepal strengthens retention, learning outcomes, and equitable participation. This commitment advances SDG 4 (Quality Education), particularly indicators 4.1.1, 4.5.1, and 4.a.1, reinforcing the principle that no child should be left behind.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation

In a country highly vulnerable to natural disasters and climate variability, HEARD Nepal integrates risk-informed and climate-resilient approaches across all its interventions. By strengthening community-based disaster preparedness, early warning systems, adaptive livelihoods, and resilient infrastructure, the organization protects lives, assets, and development gains. HEARD Nepal empowers communities not only to respond to crises but to anticipate and adapt to future risks. This work contributes meaningfully to SDG 13 (Climate Action), particularly indicator 13.1.1, alongside SDG 11.5.1 and 1.5.1 related to disaster risk reduction and resilience.

Research, Innovation, and Evidence-Based Advocacy

HEARD Nepal anchors its programming in evidence, accountability, and continuous learning. Through robust Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) systems, operational research, and policy advocacy, the organization ensures that interventions are data-driven, impactful, and scalable. By translating grassroots evidence into policy dialogue, HEARD Nepal bridges community realities with national development priorities. This strategic approach aligns with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), particularly indicator 9.5.1, and SDG 17.18.1, strengthening national data and accountability systems.

Child Rights Governance and Child Protection

HEARD Nepal stands firm in its commitment to protecting every child’s right to survival, development, participation, and protection. The organization strengthens child-friendly governance systems, community-based protection mechanisms, and referral pathways to prevent abuse, exploitation, child marriage, and neglect. Through awareness, advocacy, and institutional strengthening, HEARD Nepal ensures that children grow up in safe, nurturing, and rights-respecting environments. This work directly advances SDG 16.2.1 on ending violence against children and SDG 5.3.1 on eliminating child marriage and harmful practices.

Environment and Occupational Health

Environmental sustainability and safe working conditions are integral to HEARD Nepal’s development philosophy. The organization promotes climate-conscious practices, sustainable natural resource management, pollution reduction, and occupational health and safety standards across sectors. By safeguarding ecosystems and protecting workers from hazardous conditions, HEARD Nepal ensures that development is both environmentally responsible and socially just. This contributes to SDG 12.4.2 on environmentally sound waste management, SDG 8.8.1 on occupational safety, and SDG 13.2.1 on integrating climate measures into policy and planning.

GEDSI, GBV Prevention, and Child Safeguarding

Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) are cross-cutting priorities embedded in all HEARD Nepal programs. The organization actively challenges discriminatory norms, combats Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and promotes inclusive leadership and equitable participation in decision-making processes. Through awareness campaigns against child marriage, forced marriage, and harmful practices, and through strong institutional child safeguarding systems, HEARD Nepal ensures safe and empowering spaces for women, children, and marginalized groups. This transformative work advances SDG 5 (Gender Equality), particularly indicators 5.1.1 and 5.2.1, as well as SDG 10.2.1 on social inclusion.

Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) and Community Mobilization

HEARD Nepal drives sustainable transformation through participatory Social and Behavior Change Communication strategies that influence positive norms and practices in health, nutrition, WASH, education, environmental stewardship, and social justice. By mobilizing community leaders, faith-based actors, youth networks, and local institutions, the organization fosters ownership, accountability, and collective action. This cross-sectoral strategy supports SDG indicators 3.7.1, 6.2.1, and 4.7.1, strengthening informed choices and community-led development.

Humanitarian Relief and Emergency Management

Grounded in the core humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and accountability, and guided by the Sphere Principles and Minimum Standards, HEARD Nepal delivers timely, coordinated, and dignified emergency response during disasters and crises across Nepal. The organization responds to earthquakes, floods, fires, windstorms, epidemics, and other natural and human-induced disasters, ensuring that affected individuals and families receive life-saving and rights-based assistance.HEARD Nepal provides integrated support including food security assistance, WASH services, emergency health care, protection services, temporary shelter support, and early recovery interventions to address the immediate needs of earthquake survivors, flood-affected households, fire victims, and other disaster-impacted communities. All responses are designed to meet minimum standards for water supply, sanitation, hygiene, shelter, nutrition, and health, ensuring safety, inclusiveness, dignity, and accountability to affected populations. Beyond immediate relief, HEARD Nepal strengthens community resilience, disaster risk reduction (DRR), preparedness planning, and local response systems in close coordination with local governments and humanitarian partners. The organization works to ensure that affected communities are not only supported during crises but are empowered to recover, rebuild, and adapt to future risks more sustainably. This thematic area contributes to the achievement of SDG indicators 1.5.1 (resilience of vulnerable populations), 2.1.2 (food insecurity), and 11.b.1 (disaster risk reduction strategies).

Youth Development, Leadership, and Green Entrepreneurship

HEARD Nepal places young people at the center of sustainable development, recognizing them as innovators, leaders, and change-makers. The organization conducts comprehensive youth empowerment programs that promote meaningful participation in community governance, advocacy platforms, and social mobilization initiatives. Youth are trained across all nine components of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and nurtured as advocates and champions who promote reproductive rights, informed decision-making, SIYB (Start and Improve Your Business) and healthy lifestyles. Through life skills education, vocational training, and entrepreneurship development, HEARD Nepal addresses unemployment, reduces seasonal migration, and strengthens economic independence. The organization leads awareness campaigns against child marriage, forced marriage, substance abuse, and Gender-Based Violence while promoting inclusive leadership and social justice. By fostering green entrepreneurship and climate-smart innovation, HEARD Nepal equips youth to build environmentally responsible enterprises and resilient futures. This transformative investment in youth directly advances SDG 8.6.1 on youth employment, SDG 4.4.1 on skills for work, SDG 5.2.1 on eliminating GBV, and SDG 16.7.2 on inclusive decision-making—positioning youth as architects of a just, prosperous, and sustainable Nepal.
